Fans of Tottenham Hotspur might be perplexed to learn that Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid are interested in Gedson Fernandes.
Fans of Spurs may recall Fernandes from a very unremarkable man spell in 2020.
In January 2020, just before the global pandemic began, Tottenham seized the opportunity to sign Fernandes to an 18-month loan agreement.
With Jose Mourinho wooing Fernandes to North London, Spurs were able to get a £43 million permanent option as compensation for his potential with Benfica.
Fernandes, however, only made seven Premier League games, and his loan was terminated in January 2021 to allow for his transfer to Galatasary.
After playing for Tottenham, Gedson Fernandes moved on loan to Caykur Rizespor before signing a permanent contract with Besiktas in Turkey in 2022.
The 24-year-old has performed admirably for Besiktas and is now a wanted man.
Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Atletico Madrid all observed Fernandes in action last week, according to the Turkish tabloid Sabah.
Without a doubt, Tottenham won’t come back for Fernandes.
It would be normal to keep an eye on former players, so perhaps Tottenham would continue to monitor Fernandes.
However, it is extremely unlikely that Spurs will make another bid for Fernandes any time soon.
With the potential return of Rodrigo Bentancur from injury, Spurs have a pretty strong midfield.
Even if Fernandes has improved, he had little impact in the Premier League, and if Tottenham decides to reenter the midfielder market, they will undoubtedly go elsewhere.
