Aston Villa defeated Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, adding insult to injury to their miserable start to the new campaign.
Ollie Watkins’ first Premier League goal of the year was sufficient for Villa to defeat the Blues, who had full-back Malo Gusto dismissed shortly after halftime.
Since Mauricio Pochettino took over as manager of the team over the summer, the West London team has only won one of its six Premier League games, placing them 14th in the standings.
Even though owner Todd Boehly has spent close to £1 billion on transfers since taking over the club last summer, Chelsea’s dismal run of play continues.
More than a dozen first team players were permitted to depart the club during the most recent transfer window, and they were primarily replaced by younger, less experienced players.
The Blues spent close to £100 million to get Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion over the summer after breaking the Premier League transfer record by purchasing Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for £108 million in January.
The international player from Ecuador’s contract with Chelsea has already been made public.
According to the midfielder’s agent, who spoke to Tuttosport via The Liverpool Echo, he is now making roughly £150,000 per week at Stamford Bridge.
Caicedo, 21, made his debut for Brighton’s first team at The Amex last year after leaving Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle in February 2021.
Prior to completing his move to the city, he made a total of 53 appearances for the Seagulls. According to the report, his salary has jumped from £60,000 per week.
Caicedo, who was also wanted by Chelsea’s rivals Liverpool, completed his transfer to Stamford Bridge by signing an eight-year contract.
The midfielder has currently played five times for his new team.
