On his X account, Claude Makélélé announced his resignation as Chelsea FC’s technical mentor for the young teams. When his former Chelsea colleague and club legend Frank Lampard was chosen as the Blues’ first manager in August 2019, the former France international midfielder accepted the role.
Makélélé chose a career in management after a trophy-filled playing career. At Paris Saint-Germain, Sporting Club Bastia, Swansea, and Eupen, he held coaching positions. Makelélé spent two seasons with the Belgian team before returning to Chelsea, when he was given the responsibility of teaching the young players of Chelsea technical skills. According to reports, his duties at his Cobham workplace included “working closely with individual academy players, tracking technical performances in both training and matches as they reach a critical point in their professional development.”
The two-time Premier League champion with José Mourinho’s Chelsea has mutually agreed to leave the Blues. “Chelsea and I agreed that it’s time for me to look for a new challenge after four rewarding years. I do appreciate the support from the audience. My heart will always remain blue, and once I’ve decided on the next phase, I’ll share more, Makélélé remarked on X.
