Mabior Chol’s services have been acquired by Hawthorn, and a third-round draft pick in 2023 has also been added as a result of a trade agreement reached with the Gold Coast Suns on the final day of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.
The Hawks, who earlier today acquired Chol from Brisbane, will give the Suns a future second-round draft pick in exchange for Chol and the 62nd overall pick in this year’s national draft.
The 26-year-old key forward/ruckman joined the Suns in 2022 after a 61-game stint with the Hawks, scoring a team-high 44 goals in his rookie season.
The 200cm big man most recently spearheaded the Suns’ VFL premiership campaign, which included a five-goal preliminary final performance, before adding four more majors in the decider.
Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said Chol’s addition would strengthen Hawthorn’s forward stocks.
Mabior, who has played in more than 60 games, will complement our youthful and developing list, according to McKenzie, and his finest football is undoubtedly yet to come.
We anticipate Mabior having an early impact in the forward position, but he also has the versatility to pinch-hit in the ruck.
Mabior wants to join our club to be a part of our exciting journey, and I’m confident he will enjoy this opportunity. That is very pleasing.
