Even though Hawthorn lost to Richmond by 11 points on Friday night, some parts of the game impressed Hawks supporters.
Fans at Cazalys Stadium were provided to a preview of Hawthorn’s future, whether it was Bridie Hipwell’s disputed mark, Jasmine Fleming’s accurate kicking, or Aileen Gilroy’s solo.
Despite never being satisfied with a defeat, Hawthorn coach Bec Goddard was largely upbeat following the game.
“If you’re a Hawks fan, you would’ve seen some really exciting moments tonight,” she said.
“The ball spent a lot of time in our forward half.
“Keep getting excited if you’re a Hawks fan, we are coming, we’re growing, we’re getting better, and we’ve still got another couple of games to play this season.”
Goddard also acknowledged Greta Bodey’s 50-game milestone, which she was lucky enough to play in front of family and friends in Cairns.
“It was fantastic to have so many people from the Cairns community here to see Greta play her 50th game,” Goddard said.
“Not the result that Greta wanted but glad we got to see her do her thing on her home deck.”
The Hawks will relish a nine-day break and their return to Kinetic Stadium for their Round 9 matchup with Port Adelaide after playing back-to-back interstate games.
Goddard expressed her excitement for the event.
“Back at Frankston next week and looking forward to playing Port Adelaide, another expansion team, and testing where we’re at against another really quality opponent,” she stated.
We’re absolutely planning on playing all four quarters since it’s been a problem for us the entire season.
