In the matchup against Preston North End on Wednesday night, Leicester City might be missing five members of the first team.

The sole loss came at home to Hull City for the Foxes, who are currently top of the Championship after winning eight of their nine games. On Sunday, Enzo Maresca’s team defeated Blackburn Rovers 1-4 away from home, and PNE will be their next opponent. Despite being in third place in the league, North End is looking to recover from Saturday’s humiliating loss to West Brom at home.

Leicester lost stars James Maddison and Harvey Barnes in the summer, but retained plenty of the squad which came down from the top flight. Jamie Vardy, Wilfred Ndidi, Ricardo Pereira, Wout Faes, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and co are all playing their part in the Foxes’ Championship campaign, along with ex-PNE loan man Stephy Mavididi.

Maresca will, though, head into the upcoming midweek encounter a couple of bodies down. Centre-back Jannik Vestergaard picked up his fifth yellow card of the season on Sunday and will now serve a one-match suspension, which could pave the way for Conor Coady to make his first league start for Leicester.

In another game, Kasey McAteer is anticipated to be sidelined after pulling up with a hamstring problem 15 minutes after being substituted at Ewood Park. Callum Doyle, a defender on loan from Manchester City, will be out for three to four months with a knee injury, while Dennis Praet, a midfielder, will be out for a comparable amount of time.

Additionally, Tom Cannon, who reportedly paid £7.5 million to join Leicester on transfer deadline day, won’t take on his former team on Wednesday night. Cannon, who scored eight goals for Preston while out on loan in the second half of last season, has a stress fracture in his back. The forward hasn’t yet begun working out with the first team.
