West Ham appears to be paying the price for their recent success later this week.
In sharp contrast to how they started last season, the Hammers have started the 2023/24 season on the front foot, setting the pace in their Europa League group while remaining towards the bottom of the table.
Fortunately for David Moyes and his squad, they finished 2022/23 in the best way possible, and even the sale of former captain, Declan Rice, hasn’t had a marked effect on their style of play.
Indeed, given the caliber of their summer acquisitions, West Ham may appear to be a more complete team without Rice.
Jarrod Bowen has been one of their top performers in recent seasons, and it was fitting that he scored the winning goal in the Hammers’ biggest game in 43 years, last season’s Europa Conference League final.
The 26-year-old was signed from Hull City in 2020, and the Tigers stand to benefit the most if Bowen makes his fifth appearance for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions during the current international break.
West Ham will have to pay Hull £1 million under the terms of his sale to the east Londoners, according to Hull Live.
