As Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez landed in Argentina for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers, he spoke with the local media before being pounced on at the airport.
The player arrived in Buenos Aires on what is known as the “Premier League Plane,” which transports all English players.
The Aston Villa player told TyC Sports that all of his colleagues who arrived with him had been in terrific shape recently.
“We are good, all the guys who are playing in the Premier League are doing well. We are at a good level, we’re going to enjoy it,” said Martinez.
Martinez arrived in Buenos Aires with Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero, Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, Nottingham Forest’s Gonzalo Montiel and Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister.
They’re now all together fighting to guarantee a place at the 2026 World Cup, and Martinez talked about the challenges they have ahead.
“Every game is difficult in the qualifiers. If we go with this determination, we will do well. We want to achieve more, we’re going to go and win the Copa America.”
Argentina will play Paraguay on the 12th of October and Peru on the 17th. Just like Brazil, they have two wins in two games so far.
Following Aston Villa’s draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend, they reach the break in fifth place in the Premier League.
They’ll be back in action on October 22nd against West Ham United, and they’ll be hoping their players return from international service in fine form.
