Wes Burns is visiting a specialist for his shoulder issue, and Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has confirmed this. However, he adds the club is hoping to prevent a lengthy absence by forgoing surgery.
Following the injury that forced him off early in Wales’ triumph over Gibraltar in Wrexham on Wednesday after landing forcefully while vying for an aerial ball, the 28-year-old winger was scheduled to consult a specialist today.
In his pre-match press conference ahead of the Suffolk club’s return to Sky Bet Championship action with Rotherham United in a Sky televised clash on Friday night (7.45pm) the town boss said: “Wes is seeing a specialist today, so we will find out a little bit more about what the plan is.
“He’s obviously very disappointed about that but that’s part of football so he’ll deal with it, we’ll deal with it and we’ll learn a little more about how long it’s going to be.”
Asked how long that could likely be, McKenna replied: “It’s a shoulder injury so it’ll depend on whether it’s a surgical repair or conservative treatment.
“In the discussions at the moment, if it’s a surgical repair it’s months, but they’re pretty positives about the chances of being able to heal it through other methods.
“If that’s the case, it would take more weeks than months; thus, we should speak with the professional today to learn more. However, even then, it will need to be continuously monitored.
Whether a surgical repair is necessary or not will determine the course of treatment. Even though it would take months to heal surgically, there is hope that it might be treatable non-surgically.
