Breaking News: The Packers have decided to let go of their Week 5 antagonist.

According to The Athletic’s Vic Tafur, the Las Vegas Raiders have decided to release cornerback Marcus Peters, which means the former All-Pro will be subject to waivers on Tuesday. Green Bay Packers fans will remember Peters as the player who brought down receiver Christian Watson by the horse collar in Week 5 on Monday Night Football. Watson was able to take that now-infamous catch for 77 yards, but Peters’ illegal tackle saved the touchdown. Ultimately, the Packers were unable to punch in the score and ended up losing that game 17-13 in Vegas.

Peters was eventually fined north of $13,000 for the tackle, a small price to pay for a victory. On waivers, a team picking up Peters would have to pay the cornerback $650,000 for the remainder of the season.

Peters had played virtually every available snap he was healthy for this season for the Raiders, up until last week. Against Kansas City in Week 12, he only played 20 snaps, good for one-third of Vegas’ defensive reps during the game.

Hopefully, the Packers won’t have to see the cornerback again in 2023, but now that he’s on waivers that’s a possibility. As a reminder, Green Bay’s final six opponents are the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears. The Vikings, notably, have been thin at the cornerback position this season and are trying to hold onto their playoff hopes as a wildcard team.
