He might return to New York in the near future, but he might live in a different borough.
Nevin is being considered for the position of bench coach with the Mets, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.
FIXING THE YANKEES:
This is a familiar candidate for new Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, as the two worked together with the Yankees while Nevin was third base coach in the Bronx from 2018 to 2021.
Nevin is also a top candidate for the Padres’ managerial opening. The position opened after Bob Melvin left to manage the San Francisco Giants and San Diego formally interviewed Nevin for the spot earlier this month.
After the Yankees didn’t renew his contract following the 2021 season, Nevin joined the Angels as third base coach. In his first season with Los Angeles he became interim manager after Joe Maddon was fired. The Angels brought Nevin back in 2023 on a one-year deal but after going 73-89 this season, he wasn’t given a new contract.
Prior to the Mets’ 2023 season finale against the Phillies, Buck Showalter declared he would not be managing the team in 2024. Mendoza was hired by the Mets and their new president of baseball operations, David Stearns, to take over the post.
