With the usually dependable Buffalo Bills offense underperforming in recent weeks, the team panicked and arranged a players-only meeting this week to voice complaints and try to resolve current concerns.
After a shocking Week 1 loss to a New York Jets club missing starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Buffalo Bills and their offense rapidly rediscovered their stride and looked like the squad many pundits said would exist in 2023. They won three straight games, scoring 37 points or more in each.
Their offense was one of the best in the league and had some around the league believing the team could finally reach their potential and get back to the Super Bowl this season. However, things have changed fast since that 3-1 start. They have lost three of their last five, including a stunning defeat to the New England Patriots, and they barely beat the New York Giants in Week 6.
While the defense certainly deserves some blame for their disappointing results of late, they are also dealing with several major injuries to top players. The offense, on the other hand, does not have many excuses. The run game is non-existent and Josh Allen’s 11 turnovers after nine games have been a major influence in their losses.
The offense is a shell of the dominant force it was earlier in the season, and it was something members of the unit felt needed to be addressed this week. On Thursday, veteran running back and first-time Bill Latavius Murray admitted that he pushed the panic button and called for a rare players-only meeting.
We’re about halfway through the season, and it was on my mind after a game where I simply felt like we could defeat anyone. “A lot of the time, we’re just beating ourselves,” he told reporters. “How can we avoid this?” What can we possible do differently during the week? How do we avoid this? “How can we find something different amongst ourselves so that we get a different result?”
The Bills will seek to rebound from a painful setback to the Bengals last week in Week 10 against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.
