One of the Green Bay Packers’ most entertaining offensive players will be absent for their Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions. The organization decided to put rookie tight end Luke Musgrave on injured reserve today, contrary to Matt LaFleur’s remarks from yesterday, when coach said he wasn’t sure whether he would. Emanuel Wilson, the rookie running back, was also placed on injured reserve.

To take fill spots on the 53-man roster, the Packers signed wide receiver Bo Melton and running back James Robinson from their practice squad. Melton has been with the Packers since last season and Robinson was recently signed this week. He had spent three weeks with the Packers’ practice squad earlier this season.

In addition, the Packers have elevated fullback (yes, fullback) Henry Pearson and safety Benny Sapp III from the practice squad to the active roster for Thanksgiving. It is Pearson’s first elevation and Sapp’s second.

Green Bay Packers’ Tight End Luke Musgrave’s Injury Was Very Serious

According to the Packers, Musgrave’s abdominal injury was actually a lacerated kidney. He suffered the injury in the third quarter of Green Bay’s win over the Chargers, yet finished the game and did not talk to trainers about it until afterwards.

Players that have suffered lacerated kidneys in the past have missed anywhere between three and eight games. It all depends on how badly the kidney was hurt. However, Musgrave’s placement on injured reserve guarantees that he will be out for at least four games.

The Packers have seven games remaining in the season, and Musgrave is just 23 yards away from breaking the franchise record for receiving yards by a rookie tight end

Green Bay Packers’ Running Back Emanuel Wilson’s Injury Opened the Door for the Return of Patrick Taylor

Undrafted free agent rookie running back Emanuel Wilson ran his way into the hearts of Packers fans when he led the NFL in rushing yards during the preseason. Unfortunately, he has not been able to get on the field much this season. In some of the most extended playing time that he got this season, Wilson was severely injured against the Chargers.

Wilson separated his shoulder bad enough that trainers could not pop it back into place on the field. While the results of his MRI have not been revealed, his placement on injured reserve would seem to indicate that there is some ligament damage.

Due to Wilson’s injury, the Packers called former running back Patrick Taylor and plucked him off of the New England Patriots’ practice squad and added him to their own 53-man roster.

When the Packers play the Lions on Thanksgiving, Robinson, Taylor, and AJ Dillon will all be available. Despite not being placed on injured reserve, Aaron Jones is classified as out on the team’s injury report. He is evaluated on a weekly basis.

Hopefully, the Packers can get more than their previous best of 27 rushing yards against the Lions.
