The Milwaukee Brewers made a stunning move this week by signing Rhys Hoskins, a strong batter, to a two-year, $34 million contract. This differs from the traditional strategy of not spending much on free agents. However, the Brewers made headlines again on Thursday morning when they signed another player. Fans are excited to see how these new arrivals will affect the club.
Milwaukee Brewers Sign Another Free Agent
The Brewers signed infielder Christian Arroyo to a $1.5 million contract with an option to earn an additional $500K in incentives if he makes the team following Spring Training.
Newest Brewers INF. Christian Arroyo hits the go-ahead grand slam
Arroyo suffered injuries during the 2023 season, limiting him to only 66 games. His performance at the time was average, with a.241 batting average,.268 OBS, and.369 SLG. However, his greatest seasons came in 2021 and 2022. In 57 games of the 2021 season, Arroyo had a batting average of.262, an OBS of.324, and an SLG of.445. Similarly, in 2022, he played 86 games and had a.286 batting average,.322 OPS, and.414 SLG.
This appears to be a signing to compete with Tyler Black for the third base spot in spring training.
Beyond his stats, everything I’ve seen indicates that he is a wonderful clubhouse/personality guy.
There are no options remaining, therefore presuming he signed a major league contract, he will have to stay on the roster.
