DONE DEAL: Sixth Pro Bowl Legend of the Philadelphia Eagles has finally joined the Pittsburgh Steelers.
We suppose it would be difficult to even consider donning the uniform of another team after spending your entire playing career with one franchise. Though it occurs annually in all sports, the Philadelphia Eagles may lose one of their most well-known players to free agency this offseason.
Fletcher Cox, a defensive tackle with the Philadelphia Eagles, may have played his last game with the only professional team he has ever known, twelve years after being selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. His contract only lasts one year, and he has a manageable $5.7 million cap cost.
With the Eagles investing heavily in the trenches in recent draft classes by selecting Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, it appears Philadelphia doesn’t have a huge need for Cox to stick around too, at least not in a featured role.
While Cox, 33, is getting a bit up there in age, he likely still has at least a couple more productive seasons left in the tank, yet it may not be in Philadelphia.
Cox didn’t hesitate to state that he’d like to play with the Steelers, where he’d get to team up with Heyward.
“It’s all love. Just respect that you got for the game, respect that I have for the game. The way that you play the game, the way that I play the game, like we definitely could. That would’ve been nice. We could make some things happen.”
