GOOD NEWS: Myles Garrett Recieved Special Recognition For been …
For the 2023 campaign, Myles Garrett won his first NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award.
As usual, some thought the Cleveland Browns edge rusher wasn’t deserving of such recognition.
They used statistical comparisons in most of their arguments, some of which were more reliable than others.
Pro Football Focus is one analytics organisation that prioritises effect over metrics.
And in a recent Twitter tweet, PFF named Myles Garrett the top edge rusher of 2023.
The best edge defenders overall for the 2023 campaign
PFF gave Garrett a score of 93.9 for the year based on their special system that takes into account win rates, speed, and other factors.
That put him well ahead of Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Micah Parsons, by 1.4 points.
Every player in the top 10 of PFF’s rankings scored more than 90 points, which is regarded as remarkable by them.
Parsons was one of two players who lined up against Demarcus Lawrence, 91.2, another outstanding edge rusher.
The two Pittsburgh teammates in the top 10 are Alex Highsmith (90.2) and T.J. Watt (91.9), who are placed fifth and sixth respectively.
The idea that Garrett declined significantly as the year came to an end was one of the defences used against his DPOTY win.
Over the final six games with the Browns, Garrett only managed one sack, missing five in a row.
However, even when facing double teams, his quarterback rush counts and redirections remained constant, according to his weekly PFF ratings.
ESPN’s pass rush and run-stop win percentages provide as further evidence of Garrett’s effectiveness.
Garrett, Will Anderson Jr., and Bradley Chubb are the only three players with rankings in the top ten in each category.
The defensive captain for Cleveland was selected to the Pro Bowl for the fifth time and is a five-time All-Pro.
