The Las Vegas Raiders’ head coach, Antonio Pierce, is looking for experience to round out his coaching staff as he transitions from an interim to a full-time position.
According to reports in recent weeks, former head coach Marvin Lewis may join Pierce’s staff in a more traditional role.
That has come to pass. The Raiders have officially hired Lewis as an assistant coach. This might be a huge boon for the Raiders.
Lewis, 64, was the Bengals’ head coach from 2003 until 2018. He guided the squad to seven postseason berths throughout that time.
Despite going winless in the postseason, Lewis’ extensive defensive experience should benefit a Raiders team that improved by leaps and bounds under Pierce following Josh McDaniels’ in-season ouster. In addition to his time in Cincinnati, Lewis worked as an assistant with the Pittsburgh Steelers (1992-95), Baltimore Ravens (1996-2001), and Washington (2002). This is a significant accomplishment for Pierce, a first-time head coach who was previously only a linebackers coach before obtaining the Raiders’ interim job.
