By the end of Mitch Trubisky’s final season with the Chicago Bears, it was evident that he would need to spend some time as a backup quarterback before being able to start again in the NFL.
Trubisky spent the 2021 season as the Buffalo Bills’ backup quarterback to Josh Allen before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2022 season. Trubisky joined with the Steelers with the idea of becoming the starting quarterback.
Trubisky’s stint with the Steelers brought back memories for the Chicago Bears first-round choice. Shortly after signing with the Steelers, Pittsburgh selected quarterback Kenny Pickett in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Trubisky proved to Pickett what Mike Glennon was to the former Bears starting quarterback in 2017.
According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Trubiksy was never considered by the Steelers. On draft night, Trubisky was asked to send a congratulations text to Pickett, which was eerily identical to Glennon’s attendance at the Bears’ 2017 Draft Party, when the former North Carolina quarterback was taken second overall.
Mitchell Trubisky’s time with the Pittsburgh Steelers is a sign that a trade for Chicago Bears’ quarterback Justin Fields is not likely
The Steelers are still determined to make Pickett as comfortable as possible, which is why that tale remains pertinent for the Bears. Despite problems in his first two seasons and appearing to be benched during the Steelers’ playoff run in 2023, the franchise remains confident in the former first-round choice.
That might be troublesome for the Bears, given they appear to be planning to deal Justin Fields. While the Falcons are considered the favorites to sign Fields, it’s conceivable that the Bears would use a team like the Steelers to maximize the worth of their current starting quarterback. That may no longer be an option if the Steelers aren’t interested in upgrading at quarterback.
