NEWS NOW: Justin Verlander been fired for regretting to…
In 2023, would Justin Verlander have been a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers?
Last season, on August 1, the pitcher—a nine-time All-Star and three-time AL Cy Young winner—was dealt from the New York Mets to the Houston Astros. But Verlander learned that the Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles were also interested before the deal to the Astros was completed. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Verlander also stated that he would have agreed to a trade to either of those clubs.
Given that the Dodgers and Orioles are two of the three clubs who concluded the 2023 season with 100 wins, it is not shocking to learn that Verlander would have been interested in playing for either franchise.
Rather, Verlander went back to the Astros, where he had been a player from 2017 to 22. In 2023, he would join the Mets. The Astros had another successful season in 2023, making it to the ALCS before losing to the Texas Rangers, who went on to win the World Series.
With the Mets in 2023, Verlander recorded a 3.15 ERA and 1.14 WHIP; with the Astros, he recorded a 3.31 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. In 2023, he had a 13–8 record overall.
