Steelers quarterback trade rumours: If the Bears are willing to deal , Pittsburgh may be…
Fields could benefit from a fresh start with a perennially competitive team
Throughout the offseason, the quarterback situation for the Pittsburgh Steelers will be highly debated. That became evident on Monday when Pittsburgh expressed interest in adding Justin Fields of Chicago to its list of prospective quarterback acquisitions.
Fields, a former first-round selection, is entering the last year of his rookie deal with the Chicago Bears. But with the Bears owning the first and ninth picks in this year’s draft, Fields’ future has been under a lot of doubt.
The Steelers will add an experienced quarterback this offseason, “whether that’s Ryan Tannehill, whether that’s Russell Wilson, whether that’s Justin Fields,” according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday. In the upcoming weeks, Schefter added, “Mike Tomlin is a big fan of Justin Fields,” which is something to bear in mind while appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show.” Pittsburgh will soon have to make a quarterback selection, he added.
According to an ESPN source on Monday, “whether that’s Ryan Tannehill, whether that’s Russell Wilson, whether that’s Justin Fields,” the Steelers will add an experienced quarterback this offseason. “Mike Tomlin is a big fan of Justin Fields,” Schefter continued, advising viewers to keep that in mind when they see him on “The Pat McAfee Show.” He also mentioned that Pittsburgh would soon need to choose a quarterback.
Fields’ potential was originally observed by Pittsburgh in his first campaign. Ahead of a ‘Monday Night Football’ crowd, Fields completed a season-long 291-yard pass to almost lead the Bears to an unexpected victory over the Steelers.
Fields’ services would require payment from the Steelers, most likely in the form of draft picks, as he is bound by contract with the Bears. That might decide whether Fields, who also has an impending fifth-year option, is truly pursued by the Steelers.
There are other veteran quarterbacks whose names have lately been connected to Pittsburgh besides Fields. Tannehill is another player to keep an eye on. He thrived in Nashville under new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith of the Steelers. Furthermore, it seems that Mason Rudolph would like to seek a fresh start somewhere other than rejoining the Steelers, where he has primarily served as a backup, even though a veteran will probably be added to Pittsburgh’s roster.
Kenny Pickett will challenge whoever the Steelers sign in the summer for the starting position.
