Former Panthers Draftee Makes Return to NFL…
Daviyon Nixon, a former Carolina Panthers fifth-round draft pick in 2021, is back in the game after signing with the Miami Dolphins. Nixon appeared in 14 games with the Panthers over two seasons (2021-22), recording 15 tackles, two quarterback hits, and 0.5 sacks. Many others, including me, saw him as a promising future. I thought he had the talent and ability to grow into a good interior pass rusher, but that never happened in Carolina under Phil Snow’s scheme.
It also didn’t help that he sustained a knee injury in 2021, which cut short his first season. After being released by the Panthers in ’22, Nixon spent six days on the Seattle Seahawks’ roster before being discarded. With Christian Wilkins ready to become an unrestricted free agent, Miami must have a strategy in place in case he leaves. Nixon will not be the solution, but he could provide them with depth.
