Other Say Fields Just Isn’t That Good
Alshon Jeffery, a wide receiver for the Bears from 2012 to 2016, was recently questioned about his answer to the team’s quarterback situation.
That is a difficult decision…I think I’d keep him, though, because he’s demonstrated the talent,” Jeffery stated on the Under Center Bears podcast. “Like, you simply have to place the correct pieces. I believe you should put him in the best possible environment because he has demonstrated his ability to make throws. Clearly, he can utilize his legs.If I were the Bears, I would keep him, develop around him, and try to trade that first pick back for extra draft picks. “Why not?”
Other Say Fields Just Isn’t That Good
In an appearance on “The Big Douglas Show,” Denver Broncos insider Benjamin Allbright of KOAColorado provided an explanation to the “why not keep Justin” question.
“He’s not that good, if we’re being honest,” Allbright added. “He’s an athletic marvel, but his passing hasn’t been great. It hasn’t all been the offensive line or receivers; he hasn’t been particularly good.
“The turnaround that Chicago experienced at the close of the season was not due to Justin Fields. I mean, he had his usual terrible numbers. Chicago’s defense suddenly improved dramatically. That’s not to suggest Justin can’t become something. That’s not to suggest his offense wasn’t holding him back. It simply states that he hasn’t been good to date. He’s anywhere between 8 and 27 as a starter [really, 10-28]. That is not the entire supporting cast and offensive. At some point, you will be a part of that.
Wide receiver DJ Moore has been a loud Fields fan, recently declaring that no signal caller available in this year’s draft can outperform Chicago’s incumbent quarterback.
“I still don’t think they compare to Justin right now,” Moore told NFL Total Access when asked about the quarterbacks available in this year’s draft.
When asked what the Bears should do with their first overall pick, the veteran suggested that it be used to acquire another offensive weapon for his quarterback.
“I want to say, yeah, we could add another receiver,” he remarked. “They got some really talented people [in the draft]. I know Marvin (Harrison Jr.), so that would be my option. But any of the big names, I’ve seen and liked.
“Justin is the quarterback of the future,” wide receiver Darnell Mooney told reporters in December. “He is the franchise quarterback. He’s been having a ball. I don’t understand why there are additional questions. Obviously, we have the [first pick] because of Carolina right now, but Justin is a dog. If he’s not here, he’s probably partying somewhere else. I’m not the one making these judgments, but Justin is. Wherever he is, if it is not here, he will still go to the ball.”
Although it appears that Chicago will choose Caleb Williams and trade Fields, it should be remembered that Fields has some well-known supporters who understand the game and want him to stay with the Bears.
