Georgia Football has had numerous outstanding quarterbacks. Fran Tarkenton, Eric Zier, David Greene, D.J. Shockley, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Murray, and Stetson Bennett are among the best quarterbacks in college football history.
At the very least, they should be on the list of all-time greats. Carson Beck hopes to join that list this year with another standout season and a probable national title run. With that, Beck might swiftly join the ranks of all-time greats.
Beck had a tremendous season last year and hopes to improve on it. He is in the race for the Heisman Trophy, and ESPN has ranked him the top quarterback in college football. Beck ranked third nationally and first in the SEC in passing yards with 3,941 yards last season, as well as fourth nationally in completion percentage (72%). Given his stats, it’s hardly surprising that he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
I understand I am biased, but the tape never lies. Beck has one of the greatest arms in NCAA football, and several members of the Georgia football team claim that his IQ is off the charts. Many anticipate he will be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft next year.
However, some people do not feel like we do about Beck.
In all honesty, when I saw this, I tried my hardest to identify three other quarterbacks in the college football scene who are superior to Beck. If you’re a regular reader of Dawn of The Dawg (and you should be), you’re aware that I can be harsh on the Dawgs at times. I have great expectations for the squad and its quarterback.
I hate to admit it, but I sat there for at least 20 minutes wondering who is better than Carson Beck. The only argument I could think of was Quinn Ewers, the Texas quarterback. But that is only one guy, and I would not choose him over Beck! If you want to waste 5 minutes of your life, check out the comments and see which names people suggested are better than Beck. I laughed aloud.
ESPN finally got it right about Georgia Football, giving Carson Beck the recognition he deserves. However, due of Beck’s adulation, I can hear Larry Munson in the back of my head uttering the most awful things ever. But that’s something to cope with.
