TRENDING: The Hawthorn game claimed its third casualty when the backline suddenly…

A terrifying pre-season trial game for Hawthorn has claimed a third victim.

On Tuesday, the Hawks reported that promising key defender Denver Grainger-Barras underwent surgery for turf toe.

During Thursday’s intraclub game, he hurt his toe ligament, as did two other players.

Changkuoth Jiath, a defender, will be out for eight weeks with a hamstring injury, while James Blanck will be out for the entire 2024 season due to a damaged ligament in his knee.

The Hawks have now added 21-year-old Grainger-Barras to the list of preseason victims.”During an accidental incident, Denver injured his toe in the intraclub last Thursday with subsequent scans showing he has a significant turf toe injury,” Liam West, the club’s medical director, told ESPN.

“Following talks as a medical team, along with consultation with numerous doctors across Australia, it was determined that the best course of action for Denver was for him to undergo surgery to help return him to play this season and protect the health of his toe.
