Courtney Kupets Carter will not return as head coach of the Georgia gymnastics team, J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks stated on Friday.

“We want to thank Courtney for her leadership of our gymnastics program over the past seven seasons,” Brooks said in a statement. “These are always difficult decisions, but this one was extra challenging because of the value Courtney and her family bring to the University of Georgia. She is one of the finest Bulldog student-athletes of all time, and her numerous accomplishments and awards will be remembered for years to come. At this time, we believe it is best for our gymnastics program to change leadership as we pursue SEC and national championships.”

Kupets Carter became the eighth head coach in Georgia gymnastics history. Seven GymDogs received 22 All-America honors during her tenure, while 14 were awarded All-Southeastern Conference.

Kupets Carter has the most successful collegiate gymnastics career in history while a student-athlete at Georgia from 2006 to 2009. She was the first gymnast to win individual championships in all four disciplines as well as the all-around crown, winning nine NCAA individual titles and an incredible 15 All-America honors. Georgia won four team national championships throughout her career as an athlete.

The nationwide hunt for Georgia’s next head coach will begin immediately.
