With the NFL Draft behind us, let’s take a closer look at which teams made the most of their picks.

We can accomplish this by removing each player’s overall pick number from their pre-draft prospect ranking, which in this case is Arrowhead Pride’s consensus prospect ranking. The resulting reach value indicates whether the team received good value for the pick (a negative number) or exceeded the player’s value (a positive number).

Then, by averaging the values for each team’s selections, we can determine which organizations received the highest value for their draft picks in Detroit.

31 Colts 9 72.56
32 Vikings 7 74.43

As you can see, the Kansas City Chiefs received the highest perceived value from their 2024 draft picks.

We call this perceived value because we compare players’ draft positions to where outside NFL pundits predicted they would be picked. Throughout the first rounds of the draft, a consensus draft prospect ranking tends to be quite close to what teams do. (We computed this by average the reach value of all picks in each round). However, in the final rounds of a draft, the average reach value tends to increase dramatically.

In 2024, the consensus ranking forecasted the draft very accurately until the fifth round. So let’s see how teams compared during those rounds.
