According to 247Sports sources, Lane Kiffin continues to add talent to his Ole Miss team, with the most recent hiring being DJ Mann as Assistant of Player Personnel.

Ole Miss Football is taking big steps to strengthen its personnel. This week alone, they’ve acquired three new members, including DJ Mann on April 6. Mann, a former Coronado head coach, will take over player personnel duties, following in the footsteps of NFL veteran Mike Williams, who was hired by the Rebels on April 2.

Mann is a well-respected recruiter in the state of Texas. He has held assistant roles and, most recently, a head coach role in High School.

Do the Recent Staff Hires Indicate More Emphasis Towards Recruiting For Ole Miss?

Alongside several other college football coaches, Lane Kiffin has been vocal about the negativity of the current transfer portal rules. Kiffin has said, “It’s really stupid. With the rules how they are, we will take advantage of them.”

With the recent additions of Alex Brown, Mike Williams, and now DJ Mann, is Kiffin planning to focus more on recruiting?

Since Kiffin took over as head coach in December 2019, Ole Miss has only finished in the top 20 in recruiting classes once. However, they have still acquired several good prospects, particularly from Mississippi.

Kiffin sought to take advantage of the more flexible transfer portal, which he has excelled at in recent seasons. However, with coaches like himself speaking out, does he anticipate a change in the transfer portal’s rules?

It’s more likely that Kiffin aims to routinely elevate Ole Miss to one of the best teams in the country. With a strong transfer portal class and top-tier recruiting, the Rebels might join the Alabamas and Georgias of the sport.
