The Michigan football team is ready to lose another member of their 2023 recruiting class, as sophomore linebacker Semaj Bridgeman has submitted his name into the transfer portal, according to Pete Nakos of On3.
Bridgeman was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports composite rankings as the fifth-best player in Pennsylvania. He committed to Michigan in July 2022 over Rutgers, Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, and South Carolina.
Bridgeman enrolled in the summer of 2023, and did not see the field at all during his freshman season. He likely faced an uphill battle to gain some playing time on Michigan’s defense in 2024, as Michigan will deploy Jaishawn Barnham and Ernest Hausmann as starters at linebacker, with solid depth pieces in Jimmy Rolder, Jaydon Hood, and Micah Pollard.
He will enter the portal with four years of eligibility remaining as he looks for greener pastures with another program.
