Penei Sewell and the Detroit Lions are very hungry going into the 2024 season after tasting success in 2023.

Sewell said the team’s goal is to take another step forward to reach the Super Bowl in 2024. The Lions have never appeared in the Super Bowl.

“We need it all. I had a conversation with [Amon-Ra St. Brown] after we found out that we were getting the contracts and going to sign, that’s our goal is to host that trophy at the end of the day and to just do that,” Sewell told reporters on detroitlions.com. “Just to win, bro. There’s nothing else to it. All those individual accolades don’t mean nothing. I want the big boy and I want it now.”

The Lions enjoyed a breakout season in 2023. They posted a 12-5 record, the most wins for the team since 1991 and they won the North Division title for the first time in franchise history. The Lions then won two playoff games over the Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship.

The Lions blew a 17-point halftime lead against the 49ers before losing 34-31. The season was a success, but the loss left the Lions wanting more, fueling their approach to the 2024 season.

“I watched that game a lot. I let it burn, just because of how close we were,” Sewell told reporters. “I watched it … to try and get better and see what went wrong and what we can work on. “

The Lions signed the right tackle and former Oregon Ducks’ star to a record-breaking four-year, $112 million deal extension earlier this month, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL by average yearly compensation.

“I wasn’t expecting it,” Sewell told journalists. “I just go about my day, trying to get well. I dedicate my heart and soul to this team.”

Sewell anchors the Lions’ offensive line. Sewell, 23, was voted a first-team All-Pro last season and made the Pro Bowl for the second year in a row.

The Lions will be the favorite to win the NFC North again, and they will be real Super Bowl contenders.
