Jared Goff will be able to drink for free for the rest of his life in Motor City. He led the Detroit Lions to their first NFL playoff victory in 32 years, from 1991 to 2023, and then won another game when the Lions defeated the Buccaneers in the Divisional Round.

Jared Goff’s entrance in Detroit was part of a legendary trade with long-time quarterback Matthew Stafford, who won a Super Bowl with Sean McVay’s Rams but then ceremoniously had his jersey banned in the NFC Wild Card Game on January 14th, when Stafford fell to the Lions and Goff broke Detroit’s three-decade drought. It was poetic. And it was obvious how comfortable Jared Goff is in Detroit throughout the playoff run, now

In a clever move, Netflix partnered Lions quarterback Jared Goff with Beverly Hills officer’s Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy), a Detroit officer who was new to Los Angeles, to show him the ropes in the Motor City. Normally, these bizarre promo videos don’t work and come across as cheesy, but it’s clear that they let Eddie be Eddie with this, and it works.

Why now? Well, Beverly Hills Cop 4 is releasing exclusively on Netflix on July 3rd this Summer, just in time for Independence Day. It is a bit odd they didn’t pair them together and instead had Goff watching film but it makes sense from a football perspective.

The film will star Eddie Murphy, of course, as well as Kevin Bacon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bronson Pinchot reviving his role as Serge, Paul Reiser, and others. It is interesting that Netflix landed Jared Goff for this when as far as I know he’s not part of their Quarterback series, but that may change.
