Reds reliever Justin Wilson had a long and grueling 707 days.
That’s how long Wilson had gone between Major League bullpen outings before making his season debut for Cincinnati against the Nationals on Saturday. It was the lefty’s first major league game since April 23, 2022, when he faced the Cardinals as a member of the Reds. A damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow necessitated Tommy John surgery.
“I put a lot of time in,” Wilson said. “It’s just nice to be healthy out there and compete in the big league, and not on some kind of rehab stint or something like that.”
