In the midst of a run-rule loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Thursday night, Ole Miss Rebels fans were likely more concerned about the health of one of the team’s players.

Austin Simmons, the Rebels’ left-handed pitcher who also serves as quarterback for Lane Kiffin’s football team, left Thursday night’s game against Alabama in the fourth inning with an apparent injury after only four pitches.

After the game, head coach Mike Bianco stated that Simmons “felt something in his elbow” and would soon have an MRI.

In his 14 innings of work for the Rebels this season, Simmons has a 3.21 ERA on the mound. Along with his 2-0 record in decisions, he has walked only 11 and struck out 20 guys.

In football, Simmons and fellow backup Walker Howard have been vying for the No. 2 spot, which is occupied by starting quarterback Jaxson Dart, on the depth chart. Before joining the Rebels, On3 rated the Pahokee (Pinecrest, Fla.) High School graduate as a four-star talent.
