If the Pistons fire Monty Williams, he could become one of the Lakers’ options for their head coaching vacancy
JJ Redick has emerged as the frontrunner for the Los Angeles Lakers’ head coaching position.
However, NBA writer Marc Stein noted that Monty Williams “could potentially surface” as a possibility for the Lakers if the Detroit Pistons release him. Detroit is going through an organizational shakeup after hiring Trajan Langdon as head of basketball operations, and the team may split ways with Williams. The Lakers had previously chased Williams before hiring Frank Vogel in 2019, according to Stein, but he finally signed with the Phoenix Suns.
According to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic, the Detroit Pistons are presently analyzing Williams, who signed a 6-year, $73 million contract with the franchise last year. Troy Weaver, the franchise’s general manager, is set to be let go.
