In just two days, Ole Miss has gotten two promises from the transfer portal, both at wide receiver. Lane Kiffin and his staff flipped Ohio receiver Izaiah Hartrup’s commitment yesterday and landed another one today. Former North Texas wide receiver Jordan Smart announced his commitment to the Rebels. Smart, who entered the transfer portal on April 17, joins a packed wide receiver room in Oxford, hoping to help lead the program to a memorable season in 2024.
The Texas native played two seasons for the Mean Green, totaling 40 receptions for 561 yards and two touchdowns. Smart spent two seasons in NCAA Division II with Texas-Permian Basin. In 11 games, Smart had 45 receptions for 587 yards and eight touchdowns.
It will be interesting to see how Lane Kiffin uses Jordan Smart with so many wide receivers on the roster. He will be a good backup if injuries occur during the season. However, is there a role such as kick returner as to why Kiffin has convinced him to commit? He has experience as a kick returner in high school and a little at North Texas.
We will see the plan as Ole Miss heads into fall camp with so many wide receivers on the roster. It does mean that there is plenty of competition to push each player to their max.
