Tae Hayes, a New York Jets cornerback, was arrested in Alabama early Sunday morning on charges of marijuana possession.
According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Hayes was arrested and then freed after paying a $300 bond, as reported by the New York Post.
In a statement, the Jets said, ‘We are aware of the situation and will abstain from further comment, as it is an ongoing legal matter.’
Hayes only made one appearance for New York in the 2023 season after being signed to the team’s practice squad back in October.
Since graduating from Appalachian State College undrafted in 2019, the 26-year-old has played for nine different NFL teams. His most recent stints were with the Baltimore Ravens and the Detroit Lions.
In 2022, he won the USFL Championship with the Birmingham Stallions.
Hayes has made 14 NFL appearances since finishing his college career, but has yet to make a start.
The Jets are set to report to preseason training camp on July 23 ahead of the 2024 season.
Last season they suffered a miserable season after marquee quarterback arrival Aaron Rodgers tearing his Achilles tendon just four snaps into his debut against the Buffalo Bills. Robert Saleh’s men failed to make it into the postseason without Rodgers at their disposal.
