The Detroit Lions last won a title in 1957. They won it all that year as well, but there’s no disputing that the fans have been desperate for glory as their drought approaches seven decades. There is a sense throughout the organization and among the fan base that this may be their year. At this point, it appears that the Lions will need to do more to enhance their roster if they want to genuinely compete for the crown this season.
Detroit Lions Urged to Make Big Move
Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report agrees with the notion that the Lions are on the cusp of being a legitimate title contender this term. He also argues, however, that Detroit remains one or two pieces away from becoming a real threat in the NFC.
Gagnon believes that pursuing a star wide receiver like Amari Cooper may be the type of move that puts the Lions over the top: “The Lions are preparing. A club that has never gone to the Super Bowl can plainly smell it, and another great summer of shoring up and bolstering weak points shows they are all in. “With that in mind, I’d watch for the NFC’s leader in cap space to make another splash before the deadline.”
Potential targets include Amari Cooper if the Browns aren’t competitive and Tee Higgins if the Bengals struggle again. “Both walk-year veteran receivers could be game changers in Detroit,” Gagnon said.
