As for Jones, the 27-year-old was quick to play down the incident when asked about it by the press. He instead focused on the team’s overall performance in practice.

Jones stated, “I mean, you try to stand up for your guys when situations like that arise, but I thought it was a good competitive practice all day today” (via Nick Shook of NFL.com). “We performed well in a few plays, but there are certain elements we definitely need to strengthen up. But there was a healthy sense of competition and energy.

Jones also said that this was a good test for the Giants in terms of gauging their abilities against a team like Detroit.

“I think that’s the goal every day you come out to practice, whether you’re practicing against another team or yourself is to feel better and more confident at the end of the day,” Jones said on Monday. “I think we did that, I think we made some plays, executed well throughout the day. Like I said, there’s some things we want back and things we could do better for sure but overall I thought we played tough, played physical, and executed well.”

One big takeaway from Monday’s practice is that Jones and the Giants made their message loud and clear. They won’t be backing down from anyone or any situation this season.
