The former Ohio State offensive lineman signed a contract with the Detroit Lions on Saturday, according to his agency AMDG Sports.
Jones joins his former Ohio State colleague Taylor Decker on the Lions’ offensive line, after succeeding Decker as the Buckeyes’ starting left tackle in 2016. While Decker enters his eighth season as the Lions’ starting left tackle, having recently signed a three-year, $60 million contract extension with Detroit, Jones will compete for a spot on the Lions’ roster as a backup offensive lineman. Jones is back on an NFL roster for the first time in a year, having been dismissed by the Tennessee Titans last August after getting into multiple fights in practice. Jones, a 2018 fifth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks, played in 36 games with seven starts in four years in Seattle but never participated in a game for the Titans since signing.
Jones played for Ohio State from 2014-17, starting all 27 games at left tackle in 2016 and 2017 and earning first-team All-Big Ten honors in 2017.
