Just recently, the Detroit Lions took the dub against Los Angeles in Week 1 of the new NFL season. After the game, head coach Dan Campbell explained why he prefers not to hit quarterback Matthew Stafford during the said match.

 

In an exciting season opener, the Lions triumphed over the Rams with a 26-20 overtime victory, thanks to a decisive 1-yard touchdown run by David Montgomery. The game, which served as a rematch of their previous NFC wild-card clash, saw the Lions initially establish a strong lead of 17-3 in the third quarter, highlighted by a 52-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Jameson Williams.

However, the Rams fought back as Stafford connected with Cooper Kupp for a go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter. With the game on the line, the Lions managed to tie it up with a 32-yard field goal from Jake Bates in the final minute of regulation.

overtime, after winning the coin toss, the Lions seized control, consistently gaining yardage with their running game. Montgomery’s powerful run capped off a series of successful plays, sealing the win for Detroit. Despite the loss, the Rams put up a strong fight, even while missing key players like Pro Bowl receiver Puka Nacua and two offensive linemen.

Once the game was done, reporters asked Campbell what his thoughts were about the game. In a tweet by Colton Pouncy on X, the Lions head coach mentioned Stafford’s performance and how they avoided hitting him on the field.

 

Dan Campbell on Matthew Stafford: “It’s almost like you don’t wanna hit him because when you hit him, he plays better.”

 

After the Lions’ Week 1 win over the Rams, Campbell addressed concerns about the team’s pass rush, which only resulted in two sacks despite significant pressure on Stafford. He emphasized that the quarterback’s quick release and effective offensive strategy made it difficult to capitalize on their pressure.
