Skip Bayless, who graduated from the Vanderbilt University, made sure to remind Nick Saban of what he said about his alma mater after the Vanderbilt Commodores pulled off an upset against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday. The unranked Vanderbilt football team came to the Alabama game as heavy underdogs. After all, they were facing the No. 1 ranked team in the nation. However, the Commodores just did the unthinkable and took down the Crimson Tide, 40-35.
Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia led the way for Vanderbilt, completing 16 of his 22 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. He also rushed 20 times and gained 56 yards in the process.
After the win, Saban’s previous comments about Vanderbilt surfaced. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show weeks ago, the former Alabama coach shared a disrespectful take about the Commodores, saying, “The only place you play in the SEC that’s not hard to play is Vanderbilt.”
With the Commodores proving Saban wrong and embarrassing his former team, Bayless rubbed it further on the former head coach’s face and called him out for his previous comments. AND THANK YOU, NICK SABAN, FOR SETTING THE TONE FOR THIS BY SAYING TWO WEEKS AGO THAT THE ONLY PLACE IN THE SEC NOBODY FEARS PLAYING IS AT VANDERBILT,” Bayless wrote. “LOOK AT US NOW, SABAN.” AND THANK YOU, NICK SABAN, FOR SETTING THE TONE FOR THIS BY SAYING TWO WEEKS AGO THAT THE ONLY PLACE IN THE SEC NOBODY FEARS PLAYING IS AT VANDERBILT. LOOK AT US NOW, SABAN.
With the result, Vanderbilt recorded its first-ever win against a Top-5 opponent. It’s also the program’s first victory against Alabama since 1984. Sure enough, the next time Alabama visits Vanderbilt, they’ll no longer think it’s easy to win there.
