Kalen DeBoer’s postgame message after the Alabama Crimson Tide’s narrow victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks did him no favors when it comes to winning over the fanbase. In fact, it might have made things worse for him. The Crimson Tide edged out the Gamecocks 27-25 on Saturday, but while it was a win, many were disappointed with the result. After all, the Alabama football squad entered the contest as heavy favorites against the unranked South Carolina team.

Not to mention that at one point, the Crimson Tide appeared to be on their way to a second straight loss after suffering an upset against Vanderbilt in the previous week. The Gamecocks led 19-14 entering the final quarter; luckily, two touchdowns and a big stop on a South Carolina two-point attempt in the fourth quarter allowed Alabama to win. Instead of being concerned or dissatisfied with his team’s performance, though, DeBoer appeared to be proud that his team was able to survive and win another nail-biter.

The Alabama football head coach went as far as to say that they are “getting accustomed” to such close wins.

Of course considering the proud history of the program and how the team is used to dominating the competition, fans took issue with DeBoer’s statement.
