Magnetic Eye Records have built up a reputation for putting out awesome full-LP tributes to classic heavy bands, like the ones they’ve done for AC/DC’s Back In Black and Black Sabbath’s Vol. 4, and now they’ve announced a tribute to the Ramones‘ 1976 self-titled album, as well as a career-spanning tribute album called Best of Ramones Redux. Both were curated by Marc Urselli, who said:

The Ramones weren’t just a band, they were a sonic revolution that challenged the established norms of popular music. Decades after their inception, the effect of their work echoes through the chords of new generations. Their music remains timeless, a testament to the enduring power of simplicity and authenticity. As the godfathers of punk, the Ramones not only shaped a genre but reshaped the essence of what rock and roll could be – a raw, unapologetic expression of rebellion and individuality.

The Ramones are also one of the most beloved bands on earth, and devotion to their music knows no boundaries of music genre, age, class, or nationality. During the making of this album, I happened to mention that I was producing a multi-artist Ramones tribute in a conversation with accomplished jazz bassist Tony Scherr after a concert at Birdland. Tony’s eyes lit up, and he gushed about how much he loves them and knows their songs intimately. One might not expect a famous jazz player to be a diehard fan of classic punk, but it’s a testament to the Ramones’ significance in the music world at large and how far-reaching it remains to this day!

The exact tracklists haven’t been announced yet, but Magnetic Eye did reveal several confirmed artists and the list is stacked with exciting names and unique collaborations, including Napalm Death & Thurston Moore, David J (Bauhaus) & Paul Wallfisch (Swans), Arthur Brown & The Berserker Blóthar (GWAR), Kayo Dot & Ihsahn (Emperor), Voivod & JG Thirlwell (Foetus), Venamoris (Dave & Paula Lombardo) & Eicca Toppinen (Apocalyptica), and more.
