Wyatt Langford has made headlines at the Texas Rangers’ 2024 spring training. According to MLB.com, Langford is Texas’ number two overall prospect, trailing only Evan Carter. Langford’s chances of making the big league team out of spring training were poor at first, but he’s making a convincing case. MLB insider Jon Morosi is optimistic about Langford’s chances, according to MLB Network.

“I believe the answer there is yes,” Morosi answered when asked if Langford’s spring training has been good enough to make the Rangers Opening Day roster in 2024. “He has gone out and in my view won a job.”

Morosi later added that he would be “surprised” if Langford was not on the Opening Day roster.

Rangers: Wyatt Langford’s incredible spring training

Langford is now hitting.300/.423/.750/.1.173 in 20 at bats. He also hit three home homers. Langford’s power potential already made him an intriguing prospect, but he’s shown offensive versatility this spring.

Many rookie batters struggle to reach base early in their careers. They want to cause trouble, and drawing a walk does not appeal to them. Langford, on the other hand, has four hikes in spring. His.423 OBP demonstrates his desire to do whatever it takes to get on base.

Developing plate discipline is another sign that a batter is maturing. Keeping Langford in the lower leagues to start the season would not be the end of the world. It would allow him to devote more time to improving specific aspects of his game.

But if Langford is ready, as his performance this spring indicates, then giving him a chance makes sense. The Rangers have high expectations for 2024 after winning the World Series in 2023. Texas will need all the aid they can get to start the season because injuries will plague the team early in the 24th season.

Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer, and Tyler Mahle all anticipated to return later this season. Meanwhile, Corey Seager’s Opening Day status is currently uncertain.

So, if Wyatt Langford makes the Opening Day roster, the Rangers will have a potential star on the roster despite their injury problems.
