Inside the Rebels has confirmed that the Ole Miss men’s basketball team has reached out to one of the top centers and shot blockers currently available in the transfer portal. Clifford Omoruyi of Rutgers has spent four seasons with the Scarlet Knights.
The 6-foot-11, 240 pounder from Benin City, Nigeria was a First Team Big Ten All-Defensive selection at season’s end and is currently fourth in the NCAA with 93 blocked shots, an average of almost three per game. He had a season-high 25 points against LIU back in December, while having a 17 rebound game and an eight block game against Wisconsin deep into the 2023 schedule. Through four seasons, he’s blocked a total of 221 shots and came away with 68 steals defensively, while also averaging 10.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
Ole Miss has been pursuing various positions since the portal opened on Monday, and even before, with players dealing with a coaching staff transition and testing the waters as graduate transfers. One of the Rebels’ replacements is Jamarion Sharp, also known as Books by those in the program. Sharp is currently pursuing doctoral studies and has used all his remaining college eligibility following a spell at Logan A. College, two great seasons at Western Kentucky, and his SEC finale with the Rebels.
