The 2024 NFL offseason is not yet over, with potential free agency signings and, of course, the draft still to come. For the Detroit Lions, however, following a trip to the NFC Championship Game last season, we can predict a large portion of what the 53-man roster will look like right now.

The highest-drafted rookies in April will be virtual locks to make the 53-man roster, barring an injury or an extremely poor performance in camp and preseason games, leaving very few actual positions open. There will be plenty of fight for the remaining few spots when the roster is cut from 90 to the final 53 starting the season, but it may come down to a numbers game.

Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes have built a meritocracy in which draft status, contract size, and anything else unrelated to on-field performance are irrelevant. The best man will earn a job, nevertheless, and the roster depth ensures that the final 53 will be among the greatest teams in the NFL when the 2024 season begins.

It’s a long way from being a prominent conversation, but at this point in the offseason these four Lions players are hardly locked into a spot on the 53-man roster.
