Brock Burke of the Texas Rangers will be placed on the injured list after fracturing his non-throwing hand while striking a wall after a dismal outing on Friday.

Burke, a southpaw, allowed four runs on three hits and recorded two outs after 21 pitches in the Rangers’ 12-8 victory over the Houston Astros.

Burke, who is in his fourth season with the Rangers, was not pleased with the rough appearance. He ended up striking a wall “out of frustration” and received a 15-day IL with a shattered hand.

“We want our guys, our athletes to be competitive and hate to lose, but with that passion there’s a fine edge, and when you cross that line there’s going to be consequences,” Bruce Bochy, the manager of the Rangers, stated. “And we just seen what occurred there. You like the fact that he was furious about not assisting the club last night… but it wasn’t a wise decision.”

Burke’s appearance was eventful until he injured himself.

Burke struck out José Altuve and nearly hit Yordan Álvarez on three consecutive pitches before plunking him on the fourth. Álvarez would stare Burke down before moving to first base.

Burke’s next pitch flew 409 feet to right field off Kyle Tucker’s bat for a two-run homer, cutting Texas’ advantage to 12-5.

“We didn’t really appreciate it, whether it was an accident or not,” said Tucker, whose bat flip drew attention. “Missing four times in, almost hitting twice and them hitting, probably not really a good look.”

Burke was pulled after striking out Yainer Díaz, giving up a double to Jon Singleton, and a single to Jeremy Peña.

Bochy later stated that he will speak with his reliever about how to regulate his emotions so that they do not negatively impact the team in the future.

“Obviously, he regrets it,” Bochy explained. “Sometimes you don’t have time to consider the potential ramifications. You’re simply so unhappy and frustrated. That is the drive to succeed and the aversion to failure. This is not the first
