During an appearance on SportsCenter on Sunday, Fowler stated that Goff and the Lions have mutual interest in a new contract, which could place him among the league’s highest-paid quarterbacks.
“He wants to be there,” Fowler told Bleacher Report. “He’s only 29 years old and is expected to earn around $28 million this year, so he’ll need to be in the $45-$50 million range based on how he’s played. So, it will take some time to complete it.”

“That motivates teams to sign any decent quarterback they can find, regardless of price. This is made possible by the league’s ever-increasing wage cap, which has helped the baseline value for top-end quarterback deals approach $200 million in total value and $50 million in average annual value (AAV).
Other analysts predict a comparable range for Goff’s next deal. Spotrac analyst Michael Ginnitti anticipated in February that the Lions will offer him a four-year contract worth $180 million, with over $150 million in guarantees.
