When a Major League Baseball player makes their debut, the home broadcast has an even-money chance of finding their ecstatic parents in the fans and conducting an in-game interview. It’s an even better chance if the player does something remarkable, and an absolute certainty if, instance, their father is Canadian announcer Rod Black, who served as a host on TSN and called Toronto Blue Jays games between 2002 and 2009.

Okay, maybe that’s a little particular, but it came into play during the Milwaukee Brewers-Tampa Bay Rays game at Miller Field on Tuesday night, when Tyler Black came in as a pinch-runner following an injury and got a hit in his first two official at-bats.

Bally Sports Wisconsin reporter Sophia Minnaert was live with his family for the second hit, which was expertly called by someone with experience in the field.

That’s pretty good comedy timing. These family check-ins can be a little stiff because one member is often hesitant to go on camera, but Black was willing to chew up some scenery and revel in the glory. It had to be an exciting time for everyone involved, and they’ll always have the video to remember it by.
