The Alabama coaching staff, particularly JaMarcus Shephard, has done an excellent job with multiple highly ranked receivers thus far. Several top targets have been on campus and have scheduled formal visits, including Caleb Cunningham, Marcus Harris, CJ Wiley, and Travis Smith Jr.

Bama247 is continually checking with plenty of these prospects and the latest was with Smith. We got another look at the 6-foot-4 prospect during a Saturday morning spring practice for Westlake (Ga.) High School.

The formal visitation schedule stays the same. Georgia (May 31), Auburn (June 7), Alabama (June 14), Tennessee (June 21). A commitment is expected shortly thereafter. The Crimson Tide is still doing well, but other programs are making him feel like a priority as well.

This year was the most chaotic in the College Football Playoff era. According to 247Sports’ analysis, one in every three coaches in the sport changed positions, with a record 31 new head coaches appointed and 529 coaches across 134 FBS clubs changing jobs during the 2023-24 cycle.

Alabama’s Nick Saban, the best coach in history, is this year’s poster child for The Great Change. The profusion of name, image, and likeness contracts, as well as limitless player moves, had worn down the six-time national champion. Saban retired nine days after losing to Michigan in the College Football Playoff, capping out a 17-year run as Alabama’s head coach.
