On Saturday, May 18, Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras hit a three-run homer off Justin Verlander after 13 pitches. Contreras was down 1-2 early on, worked a full count, and then fouled off seven consecutive pitches to win the at-bat. Afterwards, both players discussed the great battle.

William Contreras described his at-bat against Justin Verlander as the “best at-bat of my career”.  

Post game William Contreras talked about winning the battle against Justin Verlander.  In a video posted by Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel he mentioned that Verlander is an unbelievable pitcher and that at-bat was probably the best at-bat of his career.  Contreras also was asked how many times he re-watched the home run and he said, “at least 25 times.”

Justin Verlander says the Milwaukee Brewers have one of the best hitters in baseball in William Contreras.  

Afterwards Justin Verlander also spoke with the media about his outing and that at-bat against William Contreras.  Brian McTaggart, MLB.com reporter for the Houston Astros, indicated that Verlander made mention of Contreras being one of the best hitters in baseball.

“Great at-bat. We got in a fight. He won. I can go home and put my head on my pillow tonight. I made a bunch of good pitches. He’s one of the best hitters in baseball and he got me.”

William Contreras is one of the best hitters in baseball currently.
